Lake Rotoiti Mini Series

Lake Rotoiti: A Little Series with a Big Heart

Earlier I shared the beginning stages of a mini painting series inspired by one of my favourite places, Lake Rotoiti. It started with loose sketches, colour palettes pulled from memory and photos, and a desire to capture the feeling of being lakeside, still, peaceful, and just a little bit magical.

I’m so excited to share that the series is complete four original mini paintings, each capturing a different view point from my time spent at this special place.

A Moment in Every Brushstroke

Each painting in this series tells its own quiet story, light on the water, soft grasses, moody mountains, and reflections that dance just enough to catch your eye. These were never meant to be perfect recreations of a view, but rather little windows into the essence of the lake, how it feels, not just how it looks.

Working at a smaller scale gave me the freedom to be a bit more playful and expressive with texture and colour, and rebuild my confidence painting. It was one of those projects that felt right from the very beginning, a slow, steady kind of flow that made the creative process such a joy

Why This Series Meant So Much

Lake Rotoiti has always been a place of stillness for me, somewhere that brings me back to myself. Creating this series felt like bottling up that feeling and putting it on canvas. It’s a love letter to nature, to quiet moments, and to the beauty in simplicity.

The Finished Works

Three of the four paintings have found a home. Bringing a bit of calm, colour, and nature-inspired energy into each space. Whether you’ve visited Lake Rotoiti or just love the vibe of peaceful landscapes, these pieces are for anyone who connects with that quiet, grounding beauty.

Thanks for following along on this little journey this series may be small in size, but it holds great meaning in my recent artistic journey. Most importantly re igniting my spart for oil paints

Until next time,
Leigh x
